Comfort For A 10 Year Old Girl

The Supreme Court Dobbs decision resulted in a 10 year old girl, pregnant by rape, having to travel to Ohio for an abortion. Since the decision, it's estimated that there have been 64,000 rape related pregnancies in the 14 states that have enacted a ban on the procedure. I think about that girl and others like her and how we, as adults, have let her down.

Children shouldn't lose their mothers due to governmental interference in their healthcare. Since the Supreme Court Dobbs decision, Amber Thurman and Candi Miller have died. They were women of color and their deaths were deemed "preventable" by a state medical board.

Midwestern politeness meets the moment during the 2024 election as Minnesota Governor Tim Walz uses "weird" as his go-to reply regarding any outrageous statements by his opposition. The word kinehora and the symbol of the evil eye are used to ward off negativity and bad intentions.
